Dreams start here - the YMCA of Rock River Valley Stingrays is recruiting new swimmers to join the team and all kids are invited to try it out.
Fall Rookie Week is September 12-15 at the I.D. Pennock Family YMCA, 200 Y Blvd. in downtown Rockford. The excitement of Olympic swimming is still fresh in our minds - who knows, your child could be the next Simone Manuel or Michael Phelps!
Rookie Week offers families the opportunity to test the swim team environment and receive placement evaluations. Swimmers should bring a suit, goggles and towel. They will perform basic technique drills nightly and learn placement levels at the end of the week. Sessions will be held from 5:30-6:15 pm for rookies age 5-10 and from 6:15-7:00 pm for rookies age 11-21. A parent informational meeting will take place on September 12. Practice for all team members begins September 19.
YMCA membership is not required to participate in Rookie Week, but there is a $10 fee. Register at one of the Y membership experience desks or online at www.rockriverymca.org. Learn more about the Stingrays at www.ymcaraysswimteam.org
