YMCA Now Accepting Nominations for Teen Award

The YMCA of Rock River Valley is accepting nominations from area teens for the YMCA Antonio Little Teen Leadership Award.  Additionally, tickets are now on sale for the YMCA Community Dinner on March 16, 2017 where the award winner will be announced. The annual scholarship is in honor of former Y employee, Antonio Little, who dedicated his career to engaging, inspiring and educating youth.

The YMCA will award a $1,000 scholarship to the winner of the award. We are seeking nominations from area students between the ages of 16 and 19, who exemplifies leadership within the Rockford community and are in or planning to attend college. Little was a Program Coordinator for Community Outreach YMCA. Prior to his passing in the summer of 2015, his passion was in mentoring youth, helping them achieve success in school and inspiring them to give back to the community.

“Our youth are not only the leaders of tomorrow, they are the leaders of today,” said Mike Brown, President & CEO, YMCA of Rock River Valley. “This award allows us to honor Antonio’s legacy while helping a local student achieve their goals.”

The 5th annual YMCA Community Dinner promises to be a great event filled with inspiration, motivation and fun! This year we are featuring comedian Michael Jr. Hailed as one of today’s most gifted comedians, Michael Jr. discovered his talent when a movie theater projector malfunctioned and he took center stage to entertain the crowd. He has performed on some of comedy’s biggest stages and all over TV including “The Tonight Show,” “Comedy Central,” “The Late, Late Show,” “Jimmy Kimmel” and many more. Michael's versatility puts him in high demand at major universities such as Notre Dame, churches, corporate events and youth rallies.
