Rockford Rescue Mission Kids Receive Funding to Attend Camp Winnebago

Sixty Rockford Rescue Mission kids will get to experience the magic of Camp this year thanks to the YMCA Camping Services team and a matching gift from the Rockford Rescue Mission. Camp staff hosted an auction to raise half of the $7,500 needed to send these kids to Camp. The staff of 80 got creative and auctioned off items such as a hug, baked goods, one-on-one basketball match, lunch on the Executive Director of Camping Services, Bif Buchan, and a live song performance to name a few. The team racked up $4,770 at the auction - surpassing their goal! The Rockford Rescue Mission donated an additional $2,700 matching gift.

The Y will now be able to provide 20 youth with a week of camp at each of our day camp sessions—summer, spring and winter - totaling 60 kids. The children will have the opportunity to explore the outdoors and get in touch with an aspect of our world they may not normally have access to. Children from the Rescue Mission will be attending camp the week of July 4-8, 2016.
