YMCA Stingrays Finish Strong at Districts and State

The YMCA of Rock River Valley Stingrays recently competed at the 2017 Northwest District and Illinois YMCA State Swimming Championships. The Stingrays swim team placed 4th overall out of 10 teams at 2017 Northwest District and Jr. District YMCA Swimming Championships, March 4-5 at the Kishwaukee YMCA in Sycamore, IL. The Stingrays earned 2,010 points to outscore teams from Ottawa, Belvidere, Kewanee, Streator, Dixon, and Freeport. In Jr. District events, the Stingrays placed 3rd overall with 693 points. Eighty (80) Stingrays ages 5-17 competed in the two-day District event. 

Thirty-seven (37) Stingrays advanced to 2017 Illinois YMCA State Swimming Championships, March 18-19 at Lake Central High School in St. John, IN. The Stingrays placed 10th overall out of 40 Illinois teams with a score of 1,053.5 points. Top-scoring swimmers for the Stingrays at State were Bryn Kiley (72 pts.), Avery Miles (72.5 pts.) and Tyler Pidde (115 pts.). Pidde advances to Y Short Course Nationals in April.
