The YMCA of Rock River Valley is pleased to announce a new partnership and a new name for its downtown riverfront location.
The new name of the former I.D. Pennock Family YMCA is the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA.
“We are thrilled with this partnership with SwedishAmerican,” said Brent Pentenburg, CEO, YMCA of Rock River Valley. “We consider this a great compliment to the impact the Y has in our community if such a strong organization like SwedishAmerican wants to invest in us. This will allow us to focus on improvements to our flagship Y and ensure its sustainability for generations to come.”
The downtown facility was built in 1964 and named for its first director, I.D. Pennock. Over the years, the more than 150-thousand square foot building has changed and evolved. In 2017, the Y unveiled its facility master plan, which laid out a long-term vision for the branch. It includes updates to the pool, activity center, lobby, and youth areas.
SwedishAmerican and the Y have a longstanding partnership. SwedishAmerican operates two sites within the Y – BetterLife Wellness is located within the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA and physical therapy services are offered at the Northeast Family YMCA.
“SwedishAmerican saw this partnership as a natural fit with the YMCA,” said SwedishAmerican President & CEO Dr. Michael Born. “We are two organizations who are committed to reinvesting in our downtown and most importantly, we each share similar missions and values of caring for our community and encouraging healthy living.”
A division of UW Health, SwedishAmerican is dedicated to providing excellence in healthcare and compassionate care to the community. The organization serves residents of 12 counties in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin through a dedicated and caring staff, a major acute care hospital and a free-standing outpatient cancer center in Rockford, a medical center in Belvidere, a network of 30 primary care and multi-specialty clinics and the region’s largest home healthcare agency. Additionally, SwedishAmerican has achieved Magnet® recognition as a reflection of its nursing professionalism, teamwork and superiority in patient care.
