YMCA Stingrays Produce Three State Champions

The YMCA of Rock River Valley Stingrays sent 18 swimmers to the 2018 Illinois YMCA State Swimming Championships, March 9-11, at Lake Central High School in St. John, IN.  Three Stingrays earned the title of State Champion; they are: Brady Dolan – Boys 14&Under 100 Yd. Breast (1:03.29), Ursula Koch – Girls 12&Under 500 Yd. Freestyle (5:32.65, a new State record) and Molly Ryan – Girls 12&Under 100 Yd. Freestyle (57.57). 

Eleven Stingray individual and relay swimmers medaled in the State finals. They are: Alison Cushing, Brady Dolan, Matthew Dolan, Victoria Dolan, Rachel Gander, Bryn Kiley, Ursula Koch, Genevieve Ryan, Molly Ryan, Grace Pidde, and Maggie Wingo. Overall, the Stingrays placed 13th out of 40 teams at State; the Stingray women placed 10th. 

Prior to State Championships, the Stingrays took 4th overall out of 10 teams at 2018 Northwest YMCA District & Jr. District Championships, March 2-4, at the Sage YMCA in Crystal Lake, IL. The Stingrays earned overall trophies for 2nd place Girls 10&Under, 2nd place Girls 12&Under, and 3rd place Girls 21&Under. Five Stingrays records were broken at Districts, and overall the Stingrays outscored YMCA swim teams from Ottawa, Belvidere, Kewanee, Dixon, Freeport, and Streator.
