School is nearly out, and while kids typically burst into summer with a zealous energy, most parents can tell you it doesn’t take long for summer boredom to set in.
But boredom is banished at YMCA Camp Winnebago summer camps where children can have their best summer ever thanks to a variety of programs and activities that stimulate spirit, mind, and body.
“Children need an outlet to play and learn throughout the summer,” says Bif Buchan, District Executive, YMCA Camping Services. “From summer camp to swim lessons to our summer food program, the Y supports all children in the community and helps them discover their potential.”

. The YMCA Camp Winnebago offers three satellite day camp locations including I.D. Pennock Family YMCA, Northeast Family YMCA, and Rockford Area City Church located at 5375 Pebble Creek Trail in Loves Park. The Y expects to serve nearly 1,000 unique children this summer through its summer camps.
And while these programs keep children busy and engaged throughout the summer, kids can’t focus when they’re hungry. Children who rely on low-cost lunch plans during the school year are at risk of going hungry when school’s not in session. The Y’s partnership with the Summer Food Program helps fill that gap to make sure kids can enjoy healthy meals and snacks throughout the summer. Last year the Y served over 5,000 meals to kids enrolled in camp.
The Y is celebrating the first day of summer camp on Memorial Day, May 29 from 8am to 4pm.
