We are excited to unveil a new partnership with the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford.
The YMCA has helped the University create an on-site fitness facility for students, faculty and staff. The Glenn Netto Health and Wellness Center will open at the University on May 6, 2016. The Center features exercise equipment, in person and virtual classes, and strength training that is convenient and accessible. The Y coordinated the services and amenities to meet the University's needs. Additionally, the Y will provide staff periodically to teach classes or assist with wellness needs.
Alex Stagnaro-Green, MD, MHPE, Dean of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford, is proud to see this facility come to fruition. “Through a comprehensive strategic planning effort involving leaders from the campus and the community, health and wellness was identified as one area for expansion. We are extremely pleased to partner with the YMCA in bringing this needed service to all faculty, staff and students among all colleges on campus.”
“We applaud the University of Illinois College of Medicine for prioritizing the health and wellness of its students and staff,” said Mike Brown, CEO and President, YMCA of Rock River Valley. “We are excited to join with the University in creating a campus environment that promotes balance between academic vigor and an active lifestyle. Providing students and staff with a facility to work out, attend group fitness classes and unwind after a long week helps promote a more enriching experience.”
The facility will not be open to the public, but provides a wonderful example of how the YMCA can partner with organizations and businesses to further health and wellness goals.
