YMCA Recruiting Students for 5th Annual Intern Challenge

The 5th annual YMCA Intern Challenge will kick-off in June. We are recruiting students to take part in this once-in-a-lifetime experience! The YMCA Intern Challenge is a seven-week scholarship competition that helps contestants – aged 16-24 – develop real-world skills that cannot be experienced in a classroom. In its first four years, the YMCA has exposed more than 50 students to local opportunities, provided $17,000 in college scholarships, paid more than $23,000 in stipends to contestants, and provided more than 4,000 hours of service to local businesses and organizations through project challenges.

Contestants have the opportunity to be mentored by some of the area’s top business executives, while developing teamwork, leadership and professional skills in a fun and challenging environment. The winning intern will receive a $1,500 college scholarship and a paid internship with the YMCA worth up to $5,000. Second and third place also receive scholarships.

“We developed the Intern Challenge as a way to engage the next generation of employees,” says Mike Brown, CEO and President, YMCA of Rock River Valley. “High school and college students are able to engage with local organizations, become involved in the community and see what future careers are available to them.”

The YMCA Intern Challenge kicks off on June 13 and the final elimination will take place in August. There are two upcoming informational sessions for students and parents to learn more.
