Mercyhealth and YMCA of Rock River Valley announce today their collaboration to transition operations of its Children’s Learning Center, located on the campus of Mercyhealth Hospital–Rockton Avenue (formerly Rockford Memorial Hospital) to YMCA of Rock River Valley beginning January 1, 2017.
“We have been searching for an opportunity to increase our reach in the community as it relates to early learning and youth development,” said Mike Brown, CEO and President, YMCA of Rock River Valley. “The Children’s Learning Center has a strong foundation of serving children and families and we look forward to building upon that success and finding new ways to increase childcare access for families on the west side of Rockford.”
“We are excited to partner with the YMCA of Rock River Valley to transition our childcare services. The YMCA has provided excellent childcare services in the Rockford area for many years and will allow for more opportunities to enhance childcare programming in the future,” said Javon R. Bea, President and CEO of Mercyhealth. “Our focus is providing healthcare services to the communities we service and this transition will allow the YMCA to enhance the existing child care services that are provided."
The YMCA nationally is the largest provider of childcare in the country. Locally, the Y operates a Little Learners preschool at its Northeast YMCA and runs the Kids’ Time after school program at 24 sites in the region. The YMCA will use a comprehensive curriculum at the Children’s Learning Center developed by Teaching Strategies, Inc. It is consistent with the YMCA philosophy, which focuses on a child-centered and holistic approach to early childhood programming.
The YMCA and Mercyhealth are working with staff to transition operations and employment to the YMCA. This transition of the Children’s Learning Center is not expected to negatively impact families and enhanced services are planned as part of the YMCA partnership.
