YMCA CEO Mike Brown Announces Resignation

The YMCA of Rock River Valley Board of Directors announces the resignation of CEO Mike Brown to be effective November 10, 2017.  Brown will become the CEO of the YMCA of Greater Syracuse in Syracuse, NY.   The YMCA of Greater Syracuse is among the top 90 YMCA’s in America.

Brown came to Rockford in 2011 and has led the association through significant growth. During his tenure, the association has increased its annual operating budget from $8M to $12M, which includes the addition of the new Puri Family YMCA, assuming operations of the Children’s Learning Center on the west side of Rockford, and the opening of Judson University within the I.D. Pennock Family YMCA. Additionally, Brown led the efforts to increase annual giving from $350,000 to $1.1 million.

“When Mike came to Rockford six years ago we were operating with a deficit every year. He quickly turned things around and has grown this association into a healthy and thriving organization for the region,” said Mike Broski, Chief Volunteer Officer, YMCA of Rock River Valley Board of Directors. “We wish Mike and his family nothing but the best. We will miss him, but are proud to have been able to work with him. He is leaving his mark on this community and we look forward to building upon that vision.”

“This decision did not come easy, but allows my family to be closer to relatives and an opportunity to advance in my career. I am thankful to the volunteers, donors, and staff who have remained dedicated to the Y cause and assisted in strengthening our organization,” said Brown.

The Board of Directors with guidance from YMCA of the USA will launch a nationwide search for a new CEO. Brown’s last day will be November 10, 2017.
