The YMCA of Rock River Valley Stingrays will kick-off its spring season with a new senior head coach. Erika Hillabolt is a former YMCA Stingray and was a record holder for many years.
“It's an honor to be back where I grew up and have the opportunity to pass on what I gained from such an amazing team,” said Hillabolt, YMCA Senior Head Coach.
Hillabolt brings a strong swimming background to this role. She started swimming at age four and was hooked. She swam her entire career for the Stingrays, as well as other clubs and schools. She has coached for Springbrook, the Marlins, West Middle School, and the Stingrays previously. Hillabolt is excited to get the summer season underway.
“My goals this season are to build relationships, strengthen each swimmer’s technique in the pool and share my passion to help our swimmers reach their full potential,” said Hillabolt.
The team is recruiting new swimmers and all kids are invited to try it out. Spring Rookie Week is April 29 - May 2 at the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA, 200 Y Boulevard in downtown Rockford. The schedule is as follows:
Swimmers 10 & Under: Swimmers 11 & Over:
6:30 - 7:15 p.m. 7:15 - 8:00 p.m.
Rookie week is for swimmers who have not been on the team before or for swimmers who previously joined but haven’t logged many hours. These sessions will allow the coaches to assess each swimmer and place them in the appropriate level. Our team consists of 5 levels from beginner to advanced. Swimmers should bring a suit, goggles and towel. YMCA membership is not required to participate in Rookie Week, but there is a $10 fee. Register at one of the Y membership experience desks or online at www.rockriverymca.org.
