The YMCA of Rock River Valley Stingrays just finished a successful summer season and are looking to expand the team in the fall.
The Stingrays brought 36 swimmers to NCISC Conference Championships on July 24 at the Kishwaukee Family YMCA and the team placed 6th as a team.
A few team highlights:
- Camden Taylor swam in the Boys’ 15-18 200 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, and 100 Breaststroke, won all 3 events, set 3 team records, and set 3 Conference meet records;
- The 13-14 Girls’ 200 Medley Relay, composed of Alaina Neumann, Ruby Esparza, Maeve Koch, and Samara Norton placed 1st;
- William Neumann placed 1st in the Boys’ 8 & under 25 Breaststroke;
- Maisy Bulger placed 2nd in the Girls’ 8 & under 25 Breaststroke.
Rookie Week will take place August 16 to 20 at the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA, 200 Y Boulevard in Rockford. The schedule is as follows:
Swimmers 8 & Under:
4:30 - 5:15 p.m.
Monday-Friday
Swimmers 9 & Over:
5:15 - 6:15 p.m. (MWF)
6:00-6:45 p.m. (T/TH)
Rookie week is for swimmers who have not been on the team before or for swimmers who previously joined but haven’t logged many hours. These sessions will allow the coaches to assess each swimmer and place them in the appropriate level. Our team consists of 5 levels from beginner to advanced. YMCA membership is not required to participate in Rookie Week, but there is a $10 fee. Register at one of the Y membership experience desks or
