Subway Restaurant Closing at the Y

After eight years of operation within the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA, the owner of Subway has decided not to reopen the restaurant. Owner Pam Blume says closing the restaurant will allow her more time to be a caregiver to her aging parents and spend more time with her children and grandchildren. Additionally, the impact of the pandemic combined with renovation costs associated with the recent flooding have made operating the restaurant difficult. Pam says this was an incredibly difficult decision to make.

"I grew up coming to this YMCA," remembers Pam. "I swam in the pool and roller skated in the gym. Since 2013, I have thoroughly enjoyed serving Y members. Our team has built so many wonderful relationships with members and staff that it made this decision all the more difficult. We have been blessed, but I feel now is the time to part ways as a business owner, but I'm looking forward to spending time at the YMCA as a volunteer and member."

The YMCA is grateful to Pam and her team for its service. The Y will look at other potential partnerships and consider a new way to use the space.
