Words truly feel inadequate as we grieve the injustices perpetrated on members of our nation and community and how some have chosen to respond to the tragic death of George Floyd.
Our YMCA team is deeply saddened and distressed to see such racism, violence, and division in communities across the nation.
Undoubtedly people are hurting, suffering, and angry. These tragic times call our YMCA to our founding verse; John 17:21 "That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me."
While UNITY is the cause of the YMCA, unity is, more importantly, the desire of Christ -- that every person would live in unity with one another. Racism and oppression are not the heart of God and have no place in our community.
As we move forward, the YMCA is committed to working with our community to erase racism and grow unity within our community. We are an organization, a community that is FOR ALL.
