Congratulations to our YMCA Stingrays Swim Team! A total of 21 Stingrays ages 6-18 competed at IL YMCA State Swimming Championships, March 15-17.
Overall, the Rays placed 16th out of almost 40 teams. Our women placed 12th and our men placed 20th. The following Stingrays medaled in individual events:
Ali Cushing (6th place - 100 free)
Matt Dolan (6th place - 100 breast, 6th place - 200 IM)
Torie Dolan (8th place - 400 IM)
Rachel Gander (10th place - 100 back)
Ursula Koch (5th place - 500 free, 4th place - 100 fly, 8th place - 200 IM)
Special recognition to Ali Cushing for qualifying to swim the 200 free at Y Nationals next month in Greensboro, NC. Making a National cut is a big accomplishment!
And, great job to our relays that made it to the State podium:
21&UNDER RELAYS:
5th place – 400 free relay (Bryn Kiley, Grace Pidde, Rachel Gander, Ali Cushing) – This relay broke their own Stingrays record set last year!
5th place – 200 medley relay (Rachel Gander, Torie Dolan, Ali Cushing, Bryn Kiley) – This relay broke a Stingrays record set back in 2006!
5th place – 400 medley relay (Rachel Gander, Torie Dolan, Ursula Koch, Ali Cushing)
6th place – 200 free relay (Grace Pidde, Rachel Gander, Bryn Kiley, Ali Cushing)
14&UNDER RELAYS:
8th place – 200 medley relay (Mikayla Durkin, Ursula Koch, Kendall Cushing, Ella Roxworthy)
10th place – 200 free relay (Ursula Koch, Kendall Cushing, Natasha Shrestha, Mikayla Durkin)
Additional Stingrays who competed at State included: Brady Dolan, Maeve Koch, Leo Meng, Emalyn Neumann, Jensen Norton, Samara Norton, Morgan Schoepfer, Peyton Thor, Mateus Trigo, and Parker Welt. Outstanding job to all, and to Coach Anne and Coach David!
