June 22 RMC Program
Log Lodge, 1pm
Over the past 80 years, our US Senators and Congressmen have been busy trying to eliminate poverty. How to fix the issue is highly debated. One thing is clear - as we watch our poverty rates right, we see our education system fall. In the 1950s, 60s and 70s the USA was the leader in education. #1. Today, out of the top 34 industrialized nations we rank #17 in reading, #21 in science and #26 in math. Of the top performing students, 55% are from Shanghai , China and 9% are from the USA. Of these 34 nations, the USA is #5 in spending per student. Marie Walker of Rockford's Discovery Center will share with us how the Mobile STEM Lab (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) is encouraging local students to take an interest in STEM.
