Swim Teams

The YMCA of Rock River Valley offer two competitive swim teams focused on the development of all ages and abilities. Our trained coaches work to improve swimmers' skill level, endurance and to promote a healthy lifestyle. Our programs embrace the YMCA core values and promote progression at an individual level.

STINGRAYS SWIM TEAM

The Rockford YMCA RAYS Swim Team is a year-round competitive swim team offering quality coaching and technique instruction for all ages. The goal of our team is to provide every member an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve personal success at his or her ability level, from the novice to national competitor. Every swimmer is important to our team!

ROOKIE WEEK

The YMCA of Rock River Valley Stingrays just finished a successful Summer season and are looking to expand the team for their Fall 2022 season. 

A few team highlights:

  • Top 10 Y Swim Team in IL
  • 7 Individual Northwest District Champions 
  • 5 YMCA National qualifiers
  • And, 5 NCISC Summer Conference Champions! 

Rookie Week will take place August 22 to 26 at the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA, 200 Y Boulevard in Rockford. The schedule is as follows:

Swimmers 8 & Under:                
4:30 - 5:15 p.m.                    
Monday-Friday                    

Swimmers 9 & Over:
 5:15 - 6:00 p.m. (MWF)
 6:15-7:00 p.m. (T/TH)

Rookie week is for swimmers who have not been on the team before. These sessions will allow the coaches to assess each swimmer and place them in the appropriate level.  Our team consists of 5 levels from beginner to advanced. YMCA membership is not required to participate in Rookie Week, but there is a $10 fee. Click below to register.

Pennock Penguins

The YMCA of Rock Rivery Valley Pennock Penguins is a swim team for Special Olympics athletes. The goal of our team is to provide every member an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve success, with comprehensive training and preparation for competitive swim meets.

Master's Swim Team

For swimmers over age 18 who want to work out with other adults on a regular basis with coach guidance. Swim to compete, work on your technique, or just for fun and exercise. 

The Master's Swim Team participates in various events such as open water swim events, USMS sanctioned swim events, and local invitationals. Open to anyone and everyone! No prior experience required.
