YMCA Offers Free Child Care During Caregiver Vaccination Appointments

The SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA is offering a safe space for children while their parents and/or caregivers get vaccinated.  In support of a White House initiative to remove barriers to individuals receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, YMCAs serving more than 500 communities in 38 states have agreed to offer free, drop-in child care during vaccination appointments for parents and caregivers who need it.

“We know that lack of access to child care can be a barrier for parents and caregivers,” said Trisha Tousant, Chief Operations Officer, YMCA of Rock River Valley. “Vaccinations are critical to fully and safely reopening our communities and returning to normalcy, so the Y is doing its part to reach the goal of 70 percent of adults with at least one dose by July 4.”

Vaccination care is available during regular Kids’ Care hours (noted below) at the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA location only, 200 Y Boulevard in Rockford. Advanced registration is required. The service is free and participants do not need to be YMCA members. Limited to two, 2-hour sessions per adult.
