YMCA Announces New Name for Downtown Branch

The YMCA of Rock River Valley is proud to announce the official name change of the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA to the UW Health Riverfront YMCA, reflecting the continued evolution of UW Health’s brand in northern Illinois following its integration with the former SwedishAmerican Health System.

The name change represents the ongoing partnership between the YMCA and UW Health, a relationship rooted in a shared commitment to strengthening community health and wellness throughout the Rockford region. This is part of the original naming agreement from 2017 that is in effect through 2032.

“We are proud to continue our partnership with UW Health and grateful for their ongoing investment in our community,” said Brent Pentenburg, CEO of the YMCA of Rock River Valley. “As UW Health continues its branding transition in our region, we are excited for our downtown Y to continue carrying that partnership forward under the UW Health name.”

The downtown YMCA facility, originally built in 1964, serves thousands of members and community participants each year through wellness programs, youth development initiatives, aquatics, chronic disease prevention programs, and community outreach efforts.

“UW Health is proud to continue supporting the YMCA and its mission to build a healthier, stronger community,” said Travis Andersen, Chief Executive Officer at UW Health in northern Illinois. “The YMCA has long been an important partner in promoting healthy living and expanding access to wellness opportunities for individuals and families throughout our region.”

While the name of the branch is changing, the YMCA’s mission and commitment to serving the community remain the same. UW Health is investing in new signage for the facility that will roll out in the coming weeks.
