The YMCA began as a bible study in London, England in 1844 and came to Rockford in 1858. The original building was constructed in 1889 at Madison and State Streets, seen in the above photo. In 1941, the Rockford Y hired a paid director and purchased 13 acres at our current location along the riverfront, building the Log Lodge in 1946. In 1951, the Administration Building (residence) was built and in 1964 the Y Boulevard building was added and has undergone 7 additions or renovations. The association has grown to include four membership branches, Camp Winnebago, and the Children’s Learning Center.
The YMCA mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs, services and relationships that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. We are committed to ensuring that our members, program participants, donors, volunteers, and team members feel genuinely welcome, encouraged, and supported. We strive to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in every community we serve. As with everything we do, we are guided by our core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.
