Basketball

Whether you just want to shoot some hoops or practive drills, our basketball hoops are open at the Northeast and SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCAs. Bring your own ball or use one of ours. Get a group. Get a team. Get going!

Climbing

Looking to scale new heights? Take on our 22-foot indoor climbing wall located at the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA. We have varying degrees of difficulty to challenge everyone from beginner to advanced skill levels. We welcome you during open climb times – or register for a class. It’s exhilarating, scary, and totally cool!

Martial Arts

Martial Arts training at the Y provides more benefits than just learning how to kick and punch. It teaches you when to kick and punch and promotes self-discipline, character building, self-esteem, physical fitness, and stress relief. Learn perseverance and self-control while building strength and balance. Women in our classes also learn specialized self-defense techniques. Be strong, disciplined, and self-confident.

Self Defense

Learn and practice the art of self-defense. Master Victor Fong, 6th Degree Black Belt with over 35 years experience is your guide over this 4 week course.

Participants will learn the following:

  • How to avoid an encounter that could lead to an attack
  • Where to strike to disable an attacker
  • How to escape a choke or hold and subdue an attacker
  • Simple and effective kicks and strikes

Racquetball

Racquetball is available on courts 4, 5 and 6 at the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA. Advanced reservations are required by both players. Click to learn more and secure your timeslot.

Pickleball

Pickleball is a racquet sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. Players use solid paddles to hit a perforated ball over a net. Pickleball is available at the Northeast Family YMCA. A maximum of four players per court will be allowed. Reservations are not required. Click below to see the schedule for pickleball open play. New to pickleball and want to learn? We offer occassional Intro to Pickleball classes.

Rowing

Looking to improve strength, flexibility, and toughness during the summer? Then we are looking for you! Rowing is an ideal cross-training sport that improves strength, endurance, and flexibility with little risk of injury. The Rockford YMCA Rowing Crew offers both Masters and High School aged youth classes to all who are interested in learning to row.
