Spiritual Development

Spirit, Mind & Body

The YMCA is committed to putting Christian principles into practice through its programs, and people who carry those principles forward. We also partner with congregations and ministries throughout the city to increase spiritual growth opportunities.

Outreach Efforts

There are many ways you can plug into the Y spiritually. New ideas are always welcome!

Every week, a brief devotion is sent via email to Y staff and any members who request it. If you would like to receive this, send your email address to: gschwerin@rockriverymca.org

A time of prayer is offered to any who want to pray or to be prayed for. We gather every Wednesday from 7 to 8 am at the Log Lodge during the months of October to April, and move it to Anderson Gardens from May through September.

Anyone is welcome to submit an on-line prayer request for themselves or a loved one. You can choose to be anonymous, or leave contact information for a follow-up request . Our prayer and chaplain’s teams pray over every request personally and regularly. We invite you to share your concerns with us. Strict confidentiality will be adhered to.

YMCA Prayer and Chaplains Team

A group of Y members, staff, and other friends, make up the Prayer Team. The team prays for all the requests that come in, and are also asked to be in prayer for the Y in a general way. If intercessory prayer is a calling for you, we invite you to consider being part of this team.

We are also blessed to have a team of chaplains available to us for prayer, council, conversation, or any issue that might need their help. Our chaplains are men and women of a variety of ages, ethnicities, and Christian denominations. They are in place to help with the Christian ministry purposes of the Y.

Should you want to speak with one of them, or be a part of the Prayer Team, contact Gary Schwerin at gschwerin@rockriverymca.org
