YMCA Retired Men’s Club Presents Grants

The YMCA of Rock River Valley Retired Men’s Club will donate $9,000 toward YMCA programs for youth and families. The Club donates the money they raise at their annual Christmas Tree Sale, which is held each year at Highcrest Shopping Center.

“We are so thankful to the Retired Men’s Club for their time and dedication to the YMCA and this community,” said Rachel Robinson, Executive Director, SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA. “We love the long-standing tradition of the tree sale and we believe the community makes an effort to purchase their trees from the Retired Men’s Club because they know those dollars will have a direct impact on so many people.”

This year, $9,000 in funding has been allotted to a variety of YMCA programs, including:

  • New aqua fitness equipment at SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA
  • Garden education cooking and canning supplies
  • A new Concept 2 Rower for the YMCA Rowing Club
  • Two paid enrollments for the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA Cancer survivors program
  • New books, games, and toys for Kids’ Place at the Winnebago County Courthouse
  • Two adjustable in-ground basketball hoops at Camp Winnebago
  • Golf supplies, yoga mats, and dodgeballs for Adventure Camps
  • 30 new life jackets for swimming pools
  • Tween Cooking Club supplies and Kids’ Care play equipment

“I feel very proud of the contributions we are making to the YMCA for their programs,” said Doug Long, Retired Men’s Club Board Member. “Our group consists of retired men who worked right here in northern Illinois. We feel it is our responsibility to invest in the kids from our community, and give them the opportunity to learn, grow, and become successful in their own way.”

There are 110 members of the YMCA Retired Men’s Club. The purpose of the RMC is to provide education, entertainment, and community service opportunities for local retired men. The RMC meets weekly at the YMCA Log Lodge and offers a variety of club activities.
