Meeting the challenges of the future and ensuring we have purposefully designed spaces to support generations to come.
With vision and imagination, we can meet our community’s needs. That vision sometimes takes the shape of facility expansions, major building improvements, or even bringing new Ys to underserved communities while addressing the unique needs of our neighbors. Each capital project offers a greater level of service to our members and the people we serve. As we continue raising dollars to improve services for our members, we are thankful to those who have supported capital expansion already. In 2024, we expanded our fitness center at the SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA, and established the new Good Shepherd YMCA. In early 2026 the Northeast Family YMCA fitness space doubled and fitness equipment and offerings increased, including 24-hour-access to better meet member schedules.
There’s more to do, and you can be a part of helping everyone in our community reach their full potential.

SwedishAmerican Riverfront YMCA
Each year, more than 1,600 youth and adults take life-saving swim lessons in one of the Y’s two pools. They attract people of all ages, from families looking for recreational swim to teens looking to learn how to lifeguard to adults who enjoy exercise that’s easy on their joints.
However, our existing facilities limit our ability to meet these needs.
Create a modern, vibrant aquatic center where the community and our award-winning swim team can thrive for decades to come.
- Locate hot tub, steam room, and sauna on the pool deck so that people can relax safely without requiring additional lifeguards to staff the locker rooms.
- Add a new water slide to create more opportunities for family fun.
- Reimagine the sun deck to be a space for classes or relaxation, allowing people to enjoy stunning views of the Rock River.
- Restructure locker rooms for improved accessibility and aesthetics.
- Offer more family and individual changing rooms to meet the needs of families and people with special needs.
Our pools are one of our most popular amenities. The pools are aging, and we often have to close them to make repairs.
- Our north pool is over 60 years old. We have recurring issues with aging plumbing and cracked tiles.
- Our south pool, built in the 1990s, is starting to show the signs of age as well.
- Our hot tubs are in the locker rooms and out of service because they require separate lifeguards.
- The locker rooms don’t meet current standards for privacy, comfort, and reliability.
Your support will help fix critical pool and locker room infrastructure and ensure that all floors, windows, and pool surfaces are safe and watertight so we can continue to offer life-saving lessons, aqua fitness, and recreation.
Northeast Family YMCA
Rockford’s northeast suburbs have seen explosive growth in the past decade. While this influx of new families and local businesses has been exciting, it has created challenges.
The YMCA is proud to be part of what draws people to our area. Since 2021, we’ve welcomed more than 1,200 new members. But to ensure we can meet the needs of people of all ages, we need room to grow.
